Cloud computing, often touted as a fundamental pre-requisite to scale, is under attack. From external factors such as the accessibility of VPNs at dirt cheap prices, the AI-enhanced ability of rookies to navigate VPNs - as well as from within - the major cloud service providers are distracted like never before by the AI “arms race”, and are not sufficiently focused on their core business.

In a decade, the term cloud computing would, in spirit, be replaced by “inference outsourcing”. The biggest providers of today, are expected to pivot to the AI inference business, leaving a major void - waiting to be fulfilled by start ups who can offer the very same compute services at a fraction of the costs.

As the cloud dissipates, AI-inference businesses will coalesce to claim the 30% start up tax.
