It's an open secret that most startups instinctively do not hire people over 30. Like it or not - it is what it is. Chronic lifestyle diseases that plagued people in their 40s are now common for 30-year-olds. High energy, low cost talent inevitably points us toward those younger. This macro trend has had definite consequences. In most cases, non-negotiable character traits like discipline, obedience, punctuality, conscientiousness need to be HARD-coded from scratch. And their existence can neither be assumed nor taken for granted. The only way to offset this downside is to relentlessly focus on mentorship that drills in a brutal truth - life is hard, but fair. If and only if the hardship is endured, one may have a chance to reap fairness. Fairness is not a RIGHT. But, a reward.
