If structure is the science of system design, randomness is the art.

In urban planning, executing a city’s blueprint (structure) is often frustrated by organic growth through unplanned human activities (randomness).

Likewise, genetic structure makes us human, whereas the randomness of genetic mutations ignites the flames of diversity that instill humanity in us.

Interestingly, the efficacy and elegance of a system has less to do with the integrity of its structures in isolation.

Rather, a system attains a graceful state when the polarity of its structure and randomness has a synergistic effect—where the integrity of structure reinforces the beauty of its chaos, and vice versa.

A wildlife reserve mesmerizes if, and only if, laws protecting it are enforced. And the more it mesmerizes, the more people value those laws.
